SUMMARY:Change the Subject Screening & Panel
DESCRIPTION:Join TRLN for a screening of Change the Subject on January 30\, 2020\, from 2:00-4:00pm at Carolina Theatre\, Cinema One in downtown Durham. To express your interest in attending\, please complete the registration form. Free popcorn included! \nAbout the Film\nChange the Subject is a documentary film that tells the story of a group of college students who\, from their first days at Dartmouth College\, were committed to advancing and promoting the rights and dignity of undocumented peoples. In partnership with staff at Dartmouth\, these students – now alumni – produced a film to capture their singular effort at confronting an instance of anti-immigrant sentiment in their library catalog. Their advocacy took them all the way from Baker-Berry Library to the halls of Congress\, showing how an instance of campus activism entered the national spotlight\, and how a cataloging term became a flashpoint in the immigration debate on Capitol Hill. \nPanel Discussion and Q&A\nAfter the film screening\, a panel discussion and Q&A with local colleagues will be held. Panelists include: \n\nMonica Figueroa (UNC-Chapel Hill)\, Music Cataloging Librarian\n\nMaria Gonzalez (Student Action with Farmworkers)\, Into the Fields\, Program Coordinator\n\n\nMaggie Dickson (Duke)\, Metadata Architect\n\nChristina Manzella (Duke)\, Monographs Description Librarian\n\nMeg McMahon (UNC)\, SILS student\n\n\nAdditional Event Details\nIf you requested a parking voucher\, you should have received an email from TRLN staff with instructions on where to park. Please reach out to events@trln.org with any questions about parking. \nThe seats on the right side of the theatre (when facing the audience) will be scent free for anyone with scent or chemical sensitivities. \nThis page will be updated with further details or follow @TRLN_main.
