TRLN is offering a 2 part series about creating budgets and resource planning within libraries. Ann Wolfe, Duke University’s Associate University Librarian for Administrative Services and Joe White, NC State Libraries’ Director of Finance and Business will lead both sessions. Reach out to kelly@trln.org with any questions.
The first session will provide an overview of what a budget is, different types of funds that could make up a budget, how to ensure the budget is aligned with strategic goals, and decision-making under challenging conditions. The content for this session will be broadly applicable for staff seeking to understand and create budgets or to staff who are interested in this topic. There is not a cap on attendees for this overview session. The last 20 minutes of this session will explain the expectations for the second session and offer information on how to participate.
Register for the first session at https://duke.zoom.us/meeting/register/tJMqcOuurj0rHtCzVyNFyR4ORdZQ1AqtY6rs.
For a subset of participants from the first session, the second part will focus on applying the knowledge learned in the previous session. Participants will be expected to use either a real scenario from their work or a project they are interested in to create a budget and offer a brief 5-minute or less presentation. We encourage presentations to be a work in progress so Ann Wolfe and Joe White can offer their feedback and participants will leave with a working draft of a project budget.
